Prevacid
Prevacid Uses?
Prescription Prevacid is used to alleviate the symptoms of esophagitis, ulcers,
and other conditions caused by an overabundance of stomach acid. It does this by
cutting down on the amount of acid produced by the stomach.
Prevacid Directions?
Prevacid should be taken once a day, and one hour before a meal, or as directed.
Your doctor may recommend two doses per day. If you take the pill after a meal,
much less of the active ingredient will be absorbed. The pill should be
swallowed whole and never crushed or chewed. If you have difficulty swallowing
pills, you may open the capsule and mix the contents with one tablespoon of
applesauce and swallow immediately. The applesauce should be swallowed without
chewing; discard any leftover applesauce mixture. Do not take more than
directed.
Prevacid Side Effects?
When taking Prevacid, you may experience nausea or stomach pain. If these side
effects are persistent or bothersome, call your doctor. Other more serious side
effects include diarrhea, muscle pain, changes in stool color, chest pain,
stomach pain, rapid heartbeat, breathing trouble, mood changes, or vision
changes. Call your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. If you feel
that you are having an allergic reaction to Prevacid, you should also get
medical attention. These symptoms include difficulty breathing, itching,
swelling, or dizziness.
Prevacid Warnings?
If you want to take Prevacid, your doctor must be familiar with all other
prescriptions and over the counter products that you use. This includes digoxin,
sucralfate, theophylline, ampicillin, iron, or ketoconazole. Do not stop or
start any medications without letting your doctor know. If you have had a
reaction to Omeprazole/Lansoprazole, you may have an allergic reaction to
Prevacid.
Prevacid Drug Interactions?
Prevacid can limit the effectiveness of other drugs. One example is sucralfate (Carafate).
Taking this together with Prevacid will limit the amount of Prevacid that enters
your system, so you should take Prevacid at least 30 minutes before any
sucralfate. Other drugs that will be less effective include ampicillin (Omnipen,
Principen), digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), ketoconazole (Nizoral), and iron (Feosol,
Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron), so make sure your doctor is aware if you are using
any of these medications.
Prevacid Missed Dose?
Do not take Prevacid more often than recommended. If you miss a dose, take it as
soon as you remember, but return to your regular dosing routine after that.
Never double dose.
Prevacid Storage?
Prevacid should be stored at room temperature and out of sunlight and moisture.
All medications should be kept away from children.
